National Statistical office, previously known as NSSO is National sample survey office, an organization that comes under Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, functioning under the overall direction of National Statistical Commission.
It was established in 1950, with an objective to serve as nodal agency responsible for conducting periodic large scale sample surveys, across India, collecting information wrt social, demographic and economic statistics.
It has been instrumental in developing a database of relevant information that has helped Governments in policy formulations & development planning.
Every year NSSO conducts large scale nation-wide surveys on socio-economic subjects, Surveys in the field of Industrial statistics and also agricultural & retail pricing statistics.
