Industrial clusters:
Many Prominent towns across the country have served as industrial clusters contributing to India’s export revenue. It is vital to recognize these firms that are regional concentrations of inter- related industries, in order to maximize their ability to access new markets and enhance their export potential.
Towns of Export Excellence (TEE):
Under FTP, Towns with high export potential ie exporting goods worth more than Rs. 750 crores are recognised as towns of export excellence (TEEs).
For Qualifying as TEEs under handicraft, handloom, agriculture and fisheries sector, the threshold limit is export value of Rs. 150 crore or more.
Towns are identified and notified as TEEs based on the proposals received from the industry association in consultation with stakeholders. Once they are identified as TEEs, the same is notified in Appendix 1B of foreign trade policy.
These TEEs have access to benefits under Foreign trade policy.
Registered and recognised Associations of units in these towns, can avail financial assistance under market access scheme on priority basis in capacity building, technological services and marketing for export promotion.
Also, common service providers to these TEEs are entitled for Authorization under EPCG scheme.
Till now, there are total of 39 towns, that have been recognised as towns of export excellence , under foreign trade policy 2015-20 (Validity extended up to 31.03.2023)
The point to be noted is, under the scheme that no direct benefit is provided to individual exporters. Instead financial assistance is provider to recognized institutions within these towns, encouraging them to fulfill their export potential.
Following is the list of recognised towns of excellence and the associated sector/product.
